I. The neophyte shall venture out into natural surroundings. For those who have one, this should be with a mentor. The self guided might consider taking a trusted friend to act as sitter.
II. Once out in nature, they will find a suitable spot. This is decided by the neophyte, with the guidance of their mentor or sitter.
III. The entheogen of choice (which must be a 'cleanser', an entheogen which create the state of Mind-at-Large) is then prepared, should it require preparation. The neophyte must also prepare themselves and their surroundings at this point.
IV. Mantra of intention are chanted during this time to set the intention of the rite: cleansed mind and spirit, greater understanding of Veleta, insight into the world and into the self are the base intentions, though the neophyte may supplement these with others.
V. The entheogen is imbibed and the neophyte sits to meditate until they begin the experience the effects of the sacrament imbibed.
VI. The neophyte must then take a name. Inspiration is drawn from a preconstructed list of inspirational materials. The neophyte selects a noun and a verb, The noun being a first name, the verb a surname. The neophyte of Xan' takes a middle name which identifies the entheogen which initiates them.
VII. The neophyte changes into white, and goes to meet the Sun. This consists of bathing in the light of the rising or setting sun, and upon either seeing the Sun fully peak above the horizon at sunrise, or touch the horizon at sunset, pouring upon the face and head a bowl of water, or immersing oneself in a body of natural water. This is symbolic of rebirth.
VIII. The neophyte attends their tree after this, and before it speaks the following Oath: "Now with cleansed eyes I see, I commit myself: To Veleta and the values it affirms as an Order; To Xan' and the rites, practices and teachings it lays out; To myself, most importantly to stand by my vows; and to the entheogenic guides, whose vision and insight empower me"
IX. This is followed with relaxation, mantra, chanting of the new name, creative acts and walking meditation amongst nature, to help ground and integrate this experience.
X. Recordings during this time are advised to help capture the experience of the day, such that the neophyte might keep hold of it to serve as inspiration in times ahead.
XI. Eventually, effects of the entheogen begin to wane as it is metabolised by the body. This is the time to give symbolic thanks to the entheogenic guide who has provided you with this experience, and to then head back home to commune with other Xan' members.
XII. Xan' members meet with the neophyte to discuss their experience, and to question them. Should the neophyte convince the Xan' members of their worthiness, they are granted the right to wear their 'bond', a cloth wristband bearing the Veletan sigil. This marks them as an Initiate.
XIII. Feasting and celebration then commence, to denote the joyous nature of the event which has transpired. For Xan' has gained a new family member and the Initiate has received a second family, along with the tools for personal spiritual growth in the form of Xan' practice.
The initial form of the Xan'hattanu'tl Initiation right, whereby the Neophyte (Rank 0) ascends Initiate (Rank I). This officiates their membership of the order, granting them many of the symbolic markers of the Order.
Some of the terms used will be explained in later pieces, including the nature and meaning of the 'Bond'
